Prepared Food
A Cake manufacturer- in the south east of England, produces a large assortment of cakes which supply all of the major retailers in the UK. The plant operates on a continuous 24 hour basis.
For our initial inspection at this site the waste water COD reading was far in excess of 25,000 ppm and Suspended solids in excess of 2,500 ppm. Treatment begun in the waste water by adding 2 Bio-katz blocks.
The Bio-katz blocks were installed into the effluent flow where there was a minimal retention period. Over a period of 6 months a stabilization effect was observed. The COD value dropped dramatically to around 5000 ppm and remained around this level whilst the Suspended Solids (SS) reduced to a value of 1600 ppm (mg/L) and remained reasonably constant.
Over the next 12 months the values have remained consistent to the values quoted above. In July 2003 a 6 cubic metre fixed film/trickle bed Bioreactor similar to our Clearwater KX4 Bio-plant was designed and installed as means of reducing the COD and SS even further. The plant is now in operation and further reductions in the region of 14-21% further are being measured both in COD and Suspended Solids.
